AIDOS: news for Spring

A new animated video on Gender transformative approaches to ending Female Genital Mutilation.

On the 6th of February, AIDOS launched online the animation video Gender transformative approaches to ending Female Genital Mutilation, produced with financial support from the UNFPA-UNICEF Joint Program for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation and Spotlight Initiative to Eliminate Violence Against Women and Girls. The video is meant to be used in training and other contexts as a tool to explain what a gender transformative approach is and why it is impossible to end FGM without tackling power imbalances among women and men. It also shows some examples to meaningfully challenge gender norms to achieve sustainable change.

On the 9th of March, AIDOS participated to the high-level event Harmful Practices: Catalyzing innovation to end female genital mutilation and child marriage at the 67th Commission on the Status of Women in New York, co-hosted by UNFPA, UNICEF, Burkina Faso, Canada, Egypt, Italy, Zambia, and the European Union. Panelists discussed the potential of innovation and technological change to achieve gender equality and ultimately achieve the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development, target 5.3, which calls for the elimination of female genital mutilation and child marriage.

The event was also broadcasted by the United Nations Web Tv and can be watched here.
