The Finnish League for Human Rights (FLHR) celebrates its 20th anniversary

Anniversary Seminar

The Finnish League for Human Rights (FLHR) has worked since 2002 to raise awareness on female genital mutilation (FGM) and since 2010 on honour-based violence. Our main mode of operation is preventive work at a grassroots level and advocacy work.

This year marked the 20th anniversary on our work to prevent FGM. On 25th of November we organized a seminar to reminisce what has been done in the past 20 years, where are we now and what more needs to be done in Finland to protect girls and women rights. During the day, we had great discussions by members of different communities, non-governmental organizations, professionals and officials. During these years there has been positive change in Finland, however, our work continues.

In the future, The Finnish League for Human Rights will continue to work with members of different communities where the practice exists by individual and group meetings and will collaborate with non-governmental organizations more effectively. We will continue to provide FGM trainings to professionals, officials, key stakeholder persons and employees from other organizations. Lastly, we will continue to advocate for the rights of girls and women and demand the current measures to be uphold more efficiently.
